Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications of the Early Childhood Educator?

Our ECE, Sue McGregor, is qualified in early childhood education and first aid and has 14 years of experience as a teacher. Sue is an expert regarding the developmental stages of preschoolers and age-appropriate activities that facilitate the intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth of the children. In addition to Sue's safety awareness and training, her enthusiasm, energy and patience create a truly welcoming and wonderful preschool environment for everyone.

When are the classes?

The 3's class takes place Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:15 to 11:15. The 4's class is scheduled Monday to Thursday from 12:30 to 2:45 pm. There are sixteen children in the 3's class and eighteen children in the 4's class. Both classes are led by the ECE and attended by two parent assistants. Classes run from September to June.

What is the cost?

Families vote each spring on the fees to be paid the following year. The preschool is proud to offer a high quality program at a reasonable cost thanks to successful fundraising activities. While fees vary from year to year, in the 2008/2009 school year the fees will be $95 per month for the 3's class and $120 per month for the 4's class. There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee.

What would a "typical day" be like for my child?

The opportunity for self-directed play begins upon arrival. Your child will have the chance to play in any or all of the different Activity Areas - dress-up, library, science, kitchen, arts, theatre and toys. This is a time when your child is free to move about the preschool to play and experiment, to create and interact with other children.

A brief Tidy Up Time follows Free Play Time, when children, parent assistants and the ECE all help tidy the Activity Areas. After this, it is Circle Time! The ECE engages the children in a more focused session with books, songs, stories, music and age-appropriate presentations.

Snack Time follows Circle Time; children have nutritious snacks provided by the parent assistants. After snacks, the children go outside where there are slides, climbing equipment, a sand box and many toys for everyone!
